Bearded Lady #2 and Moustache!

Hey Fun-seekers!

As the Twin Peaks giant said: "It's happening again."

The giant was a supernatural messenger letting Agent Cooper know another murder was a-foot, (I loved that show!), my message marks the second arrival of Hong Kong's new bohemian mascot, The Bearded Lady!

Next Thursday, the 24th of May at 9:30 PM, Salon #10 will again shake and shimmy with excitement, amazement and wonder as "The Bearded Lady" makes her second appearance. This event has a limited guest list and is by invitation only, sorry folks. I'll try and get an invitation to whom I can, but if you don't get an invite this time, know that it is a monthly event and it's only going to grow. I'm very excited to be a part of it again. This time we are doing a 1940's Carribean theme. Think Carmen Maranda in a Busby Berkley film.

*Paola at The Bearded Lady #1,  she doesn't need a new outfit!

The evening will be full of the fantastic. From magic and burlesque to knock your socks off live music all arranged in 1940's island style, this night will be an experience people will not stop talking about (at least untill the next one.)

In other news...

I'm meeting today with Robert Rogers to work on writing a new illusion show we have in the works. It will be nice to be able to give people a time and place to see it the next time they ask if I can saw a lady in half for them (I get asked that question every two days or so).

Also, I have a new suit being created by Moustache! If you are in Hong Kong and want the best possible suit made, this is where you do it. I have had other tailors make me clothing, but never have I found comparable service and style as I have found with Moustache. You may think I am a bit biased as I am working with them on the Bearded Lady, and you may be right, but it doesn't matter. Their clothing is to die for. And if you have a special look or the need for things like extra pockets (as every magician does) then you can't do better than Moustache. They not only have achieved the look I am going for, but they have done better. It's one thing to have a tailor who will make the thing you think you want. It's another to find one who will make something better than what you could conceive of. And if your not up for a bespoke suit, just stop by their shop, it's a great place and they do have a collection of ready made and ready to wear products.

That's all for now, I'll be posting again soon to talk about the HK art fair, great pie and new watering holes.

*Quinary, a new bar on Hollywood Road. (more on this later.)

All the best,

a little catching up...

Hey fun seekers... I returned from my trip to Tailand and then the US over a week ago now and have been quite busy since. On the side of performing and teaching magic and mentalism and working in voice over and dubbing I have also just started on the road to getting my masters in education...whew..going to be busy busy busy...

Recently I designed a few banners for my show. The "thought reading" banner is featured in this post. It is amazing to me how much is added to a shows production value simply with a banner. I highly recommend to any performer having a cool banner made! The printing is very reasonable, roll out banners are light and very portable, so really the expense is the design...and if you are a performer reading this and need a design, drop me an email as I do all my own design and illustration work, and have also done many posters for other entertainers, including Adam Cardone, and Jeff Sheridan.

Last month I performed for the Entraprenures Organization, we did an after dinner show and a magic learning workshop. They also asked me to provide some kind of talk during the dinner, which was great fun to design. I gave a talk to them on magic and deception with a focus on the "why" in magic. I became a bit obsessed in the reasearch for this keynote lecture and I am currently adapting it to use for more functions. The new version of this lecture is called Hacking a Human, and it is about how, through magic performance, the magician learns how people's minds work and play on the limitations. Many scientists and neurologists have started studying magic and magicians and with magicians to better understand how people think and experience the world, and their findings are amazing. The bulk of my research was inspired by "sleights of mind", a book by neuro scientists Stephen L. Macknik and Susana Martinez-Conde, the idea of humans being hackable comes from this book. It's fun to see the scientific take on things like misdirection and psichophisiological thought reading; things magicians have been aware of for centuries. It's a great read if you are into magic and science. Many thanks to the EO for having me at their event and for inspiring this research and new avenue for me as a presenter.

It was truly great to be home in the US, even if it was for a very short time. I got to see my parents and sisters as well as my nieces and my Uncle. It was also great to see my friends in New York, many thanks to Michael Saab of the Modern Gypsies for putting me up in Brooklyn. I miss them all already. It's amazing how fast my nieces are growing up. My mother threw a sort of thanksgiving dinner for us on Easter Sunday and had around twenty guests. It was especially nice to get to catch up with the Florida crowd. I also performed a show for the dinner, which felt great. On the Saturday before Easter I went in a five mile walk with my parents and young sister on honeymoon island, I'll post the photos from that later. I am only now getting through the peeling skin from the sunburn that resulted, whoops...

I'll be teaching magic through the summer as well as performing regularly in and around Hong Kong...my best to you all.

New product and more

Hello fellow curious individuals,

Welcome to the updated Stuart Palm site. Or as it is now called. Curiosity entertainment. We plan to jump into more frequent blogging and vlogging, so check here for that.

We are Also am releasing a few products on the new shop page, the first one, Mao Tou Knows, is there already and we are very happy with it. We are also in the midst of redesigning the site. Most if those changes have already been made. A few new ones are in development, such as a forum for the shop and updated photographs and design elements. Let us know what you think of the new cream color as opposed to the old dark grey.

I will switch gears now to the first person and update you on the life of Stuart Palm. Which is me. Which you already knew. The next couple of projects I have coming are a book of effects and variations I have come up with over the years. As you develop as a performer there are many great routines that go by the way side because the program changes, or the character changes, so I am including these routines in my next release. There will also be some of the work from my current show.

I am also involved in a much longer project of designing a Tarot deck, you can see that on my facebook page or second YouTube channel: www.YouTube.com/curiosityarts

Right now I am enjoying a caramel cappuccino, having a coffee zen moment. It is quite relaxing and good for thinking

All my best to you and yours!
